About Our Riding and Adventures

So, who are we?

True North Adventures are a professional cycling adventure company

Based from our Cycle Hub in Upper Hulme near Leek in the Southwest Peak District, covering the whole of the Peak District, Staffordshire Moorlands and Derbyshire Dales.

Started by Jaime Harper in 2017 with the goal of bringing his passion for everything cycling to people of all abilities and interests, using his riding and racing experience to great effect to inspire riders helping them to build their confidence or to take their riding forward or to guide them on an adventure and sample the freedom that cycling brings.

True North Adventures provide professional guided cycling adventures, skills courses and experiences for riders and groups of all abilities. Choose from mountain biking guiding, e-bike guided adventures, road and gravel riding adventures, mountain bike skills courses and e-bike skills courses.

Providing rider focused bike skills tuition through their carefully selected routes and specifically built private courses for group and one to one coaching sessions.

Furthermore, True North Adventures specialise in group and corporate experiences over single or multiple days including various accommodation options offering a variety of packages with carefully selected partners to offer you a choice of activities, from caving, climbing, numerous water sports and fun courses for kids.

We are the UK’s first e-bike guiding company offering unique e-bike adventures with high end e-bike hire for you to ride with our guides.

We pride ourselves on being that little bit different, we have some of the best routes, trails, off piste riding and scenic routes the North/Midlands has to offer. With twenty years’ experience growing up and exploring the Peak District and beyond there’s hardly a place we’ve not ridden or explored.

Why us?

All our guides are professionally qualified holding the highest British Cycling qualifications in Level 3 Leader, Tour Leader and emergency first aid. In addition to the 40 plus years’ experience between them both riding Peak District trails, along with MBL3 instructor qualification and membership of the Association of British Cycling Coaches we believe these to be the most robust in the business – they are not easy to come by but your enjoyment is a serious business.

The Peak District and surrounding areas are beautiful but can be a wild place. When you pay for our services, you’re paying for the reassurance that we know our way around the area, how to read people, the local conditions, logistics, fix mechanicals and always have another ‘plan A’ up our sleeve.

OUR GUIDES

Jaime Harper

True North Adventures owner and lead guide Jaime

Jaime started out his biking career at the tender age of 12 thrashing around on BMX’s, progressing to mountain biking in the early 90’s racing through the ranks to become a professional mountain bike racer, riding for Muddy Fox, Rocky Mountain and representing Great Britain in the European and World Championships.

Not just satisfied with mountain biking he has also raced at elite level in other cycling disciplines, cycle-cross and road racing. His love of the mountains has also developed him as an accomplished snowboarder. His career path however took a different route after studying Civil Engineering and Project Management, ending up working in the construction industry. Although he never stopped riding and racing, his love has always been anything to do with cycling and exploring as many places as possible both in the UK and Worldwide.

Using his many years of riding and racing experience he has now made mountain biking his career as a qualified mountain bike guide and instructor, road leader, qualified mechanic and now brand ambassador/rider for Lapierre bikes.

His experience as a rider includes guiding groups over a number of years in Chamonix and 20 years of racing from Cross Country, Downhill, and the past 6 years Enduro racing. Now on his 3rd season racing in selected Enduro World Series races and a number of epic events such as the Trans Provence in France as well as many UK events. With this experience he is perfectly placed to offer a wealth of cycling knowledge, skill and understanding to anyone taking part in our adventures and holidays.

Jaime is MBL3  and British Cycling Level 3 qualified with BASP Outdoor First Aid certified, British Cycling Tour Leader having both personal and British Cycling liability insurance.

Rick Bailey

Our Rick has lived either side of the Peak District for the whole of his life (Macclesfield and Sheffield) which has given him a fantastic cycling upbringing, there’s not a route Rick doesn’t know about!

After spending 6 years as a mountain bike guide in Europe.  A British Cycling qualified Mountain Bike guide stemming from love of all things bike, in fact, he spends all his other time at work at Cycles In Motion, his own specialist bicycle workshop with any spare time usually spent ‘yep you guessed it’ riding bikes.

What Rick said..

“I’m not sure at what point a hobby becomes an obsession but I prefer to call it a way of life.  It has led me to riding all manner of bikes, in all manner of disciplines all over the world meeting tons of rad people. I love racing bikes as well, it’s a blast, I’ve raced downhill bikes, cross country bikes, road bikes, and am always looking for the next race or discipline to have a crack at. Having said that, my favourite place to ride remains the Peak District, the variety is huge with something for everyone, indeed a lot of the country’s best cyclists live and train in the area and it’s not hard to see why”
