Our Story....

After 30 years of riding and racing all over the world, cycling has changed our lives!.......... We'd love to do the same for you.

As John F Kennedy once said “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike” ,

Having started cycling at a very early age I started competitive racing at 15 years old in the youth category in the early 90’s.

My parents took me to every conceivable race travelling all over the country, to which I now look back on with such thanks and gratitude – from that point I was hooked.

The places i’ve visited and friends made, still to this day are some of my best friends from my early days of riding.

Since then cycling has been in my blood, competing in nearly every cycling discipline riding at elite level, in cyclocross and road racing, as well as representing Great Britain in the World and European Championships in Mountain Biking.

Whilst never stopping cycling, I fell into a career in the construction industry after studying civil engineering and construction.

Working all hours all over the country and becoming disillusioned with the industry and realising I was starting to suffering from stress, I decided to get back to what I loved…..and what made me happy.

And so, True North Adventures was born!

What we are about....

Having been involved in cycling, particularly mountain biking for so long, there’s not much we haven’t seen, ridden, fallen off of, and so learn’t some hard and valuable lessons along the way.

We are passionate about passing on our experience and skills developed over time, to provide professional guided cycling adventures, skills courses and experiences for riders and groups of all abilities.  Helping to inspire, build confidence, improve specific skills and take your riding forward or to guide you on an adventure and sample the freedom that cycling brings.

Choose from a selection of individual, group or private mountain biking guiding, e-bike guided adventures, road and gravel riding adventures, mountain bike skills courses and e-bike skills courses.

Back in 2017 we set up True North Adventures as the Peak District’s first e-bike guiding company offering unique e-bike guided adventures with high end e-bike hire along with our traditional mountain bike guided rides. From there on, we have grown to opening up our Cycle Hub in January 2019 on the doorstep of some great trails as a base for our adventures and courses, but in addition a chilled out place for the local riding community to come and relax chat all things bikes, have their bikes serviced and also find their new dream bike.  We are lucky enough to have our own private skills area, with enduro trail and an e-bike uphill flow trail, allowing us to offer professional skills and coaching instruction for all abilities, in a safe and controlled environment.

We’ve also been heavily involved in e-bike world, working with Haibike and Lapierre in raising awareness of the benefits of e-bikes from a freedom point of view, and the obvious health benefits for many people. Testing their capabilities in races and events throughout the past 4 years, we feel we have the experience an knowledge to pass on.

We pride ourselves on being that little bit different,   We have some of the best routes, trails, off piste riding and scenic routes the North/Midlands has to offer. With twenty years’ experience growing up and exploring the Peak District and beyond there’s hardly a place we’ve not ridden or explored.

Why not come and join us….

Our Instructors & Guides

Jaime Harper

True North Adventures owner and lead guide Jaime

Jaime started out his biking career at the tender age of 12 thrashing around on BMX’s, progressing to mountain biking in the early 90’s racing through the ranks to become a professional mountain bike racer, riding for Muddy Fox, Rocky Mountain and representing Great Britain in the European and World Championships.

Not just satisfied with mountain biking he has also raced at elite level in other cycling disciplines including cyclo-cross and road racing. His love of the mountains has also developed him as an accomplished snowboarder. His career path however took a different route after studying Civil Engineering and Project Management, ending up working in the construction industry. Although he never stopped riding and racing, his love has always been anything to do with cycling and exploring as many places as possible both in the UK and Worldwide.

Using his many years of riding and racing experience he has now made mountain biking his career as a qualified mountain bike guide, tutor and instructor, road leader and qualified mechanic along with the cycle hub.

His experience as a rider stems from 20 years of racing in Cross Country, Downhill, and the past 7 years racing Enduro. Now on his 4th season racing in selected Enduro World Series races and a number of epic events including the awesome Trans Provence MTB rally in France as well as many UK gravity events. With this experience he is perfectly placed to offer a wealth of cycling knowledge, skill and understanding to anyone taking part in our adventures and coaching sessions.

Jaime is fully insured MBL4/5 instructor and British Cycling Level 3 qualified leader, BASP Outdoor First Aid certified and British Cycling Tour Leader.

Sam Dale

Pro Mountain Biker, Trial Builder and Coach

Sam doesn’t need any introductions…. but the super friendly and extremely tall professional rider from Macclesfield, has been a constant force on the international race circuit for some time.  Riding for factory teams like GT, Madison/Saracen, as 50 to 01 crew rider and now a coach himself.

Sam is super busy with racing, travelling and filming with the 50 to 01 crew already in  2020, but has been instrumental in helping us get our private trails and skills area built.

In between his riding commitments and when he’s home we are going to be working together putting on a selected number of ‘Pro Master Classes’ with Sam covering a number of courses.

Look out for details….
